Imagine if a robot could help perform your surgery. Nothing can replace your doctor, but with assistance from the innovative da Vinci® robotic surgery system, your surgeon can perform your surgery with a faster recovery, less pain and less discomfort.

There’s been a sea of change in the way many surgeries are performed in the last four decades, thanks to the development and refinement of minimally invasive surgical procedures. These procedures differ from open surgery in multiple ways — one of the most significant being that this type of surgery doesn’t require large incisions, as traditional surgery does.

Dr. Luis Quinones values offering his patients state-of-the-art surgical options and enthusiastically embraces minimally invasive procedures.  Dr. Quinones specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures using the da Vinci® robotic system. Dr. Quinones and the Q&S Surgical team in Decatur and Lithonia, Georgia, can help you experience better surgical outcomes.

Surgery performed using the da Vinci platform offers a host of benefits. We outline eight of those here.

How is the da Vinci robotic system different?

The da Vinci surgical system features four robotic arms that Dr. Quinones can use to better and more precisely perform his tasks during a diverse range of procedures. The system consists of a console where he sits to perform your surgery. It’s outfitted with hand and foot controls so he can manipulate the arms.

Another component, the patient cart, contains surgical instruments and a high-definition, 3D camera, so Dr. Quinones has an excellent view of your treatment area.

A third part of the system, the vision cart, is equipped with the control electronics and a video screen so all medical personnel involved in your surgery can see clearly what’s going on.

There’s a lot to love about da Vinci

Dr. Quinones uses the da Vinci system for many of his services, and the advantages of the platform are numerous, including:

1. Smaller incisions

Dr. Quinones only has to make a few small incisions with the da Vinci system because he uses a laparoscope, a narrow tube equipped with a tiny camera and light that’s inserted through an incision. Your body undergoes less trauma with smaller incisions.

2. Less bleeding and scarring

Because of the reduced trauma to your body, there’s less blood loss as a result of surgery as well as less scarring.

3. Less damage to your skin, tissues, and muscles

This is another positive result of less cutting with the da Vinci system. Likewise, fewer stitches are needed to close your incisions.

4. Better control

The da Vinci system’s arms have a wider range of motion than that of a human arm and allow Dr. Quinones more control and precision, so he can maneuver with more skill and ease during your surgery.

5. Quicker, less painful recovery

You can bounce back faster after surgery with the da Vinci system. Since it’s less invasive, and because the system is designed to apply less pressure on your incisions during the operation than traditional laparoscopic surgery, you’re back on your feet and back to your normal life in no time.

6. Shorter hospital stay

Many da Vinci procedures allow you to return home the same day your surgery takes place. This is unlike traditional open surgery, which typically requires a hospital stay of multiple days.

7. Reduced chance of post-surgical infection

With the smaller incisions that are typical in da Vinci procedures, there’s less tissue disruption and exposure to infection-causing germs. With this type of surgery, you’re also at reduced risk for other post-surgical complications.

8. Useful for many procedures

There are many instances when surgery can be performed using the da Vinci system as we noted before. This platform can be used for cardiac, colorectal, gallbladder, and gynecological surgeries, and more.
